Emergency Medicine Greece

Payer Source

Sources of patient payment for services in the emergency department include:

  • Commercial (private) medical insurance
  • Government insurance
    • Medicare
    • Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Worker’s compensation.

The Affordable Healthcare Act was signed into law in 2010. Since that time, there has been an increase in the percentage of patients with Medicaid and CHIP coverage, and a decline in the percentage of patients with commercial insurance and no insurance. For the third year in a row, Medicaid and CHIP makes up the highest percentage of patients.
